  One of the biggest movie hits of 1981 was a star-studded action/adventure/comedy called "The Cannonball Run", about an illegal road race from New York to California for a million dollar prize.
What some people don't know is that the movie was based on a real-life series of crazy cross-country races that were held in the 1970's. And people today are still at it, trying to break the records for the fastest time.
